The Hildebrand brothers John, 82, and Gordon, 80, take a tour of their property and the surrounding area in Sherman County, Oregon, home to a multitude of wind turbines.  The brothers, who are third-generation wheat farmers, had the turbines put on their land in 2001 and they now provide the majority of their income.  On assignment for The New York Times.
  
Evangeline Nichols gets her ride fixed at the employee-owned Citybikes Workers' Cooperative which is committed to being affordable and allows customers to use their their tools for free. Amid economic catastrophe - according to Businessweek Portland is America's most depressed city, —there is still dedication to the things that really matter: hearty food and drink, cultural pursuits both high and low, days in the outdoors and evenings out with friends. Six months out of the year The New Shanghai Circus performs twice daily in Branson, Missouri. Most of the troupe do not speak English and has little contact with America. They practice up to four hours a day so free time is minimal and often spent on the Internet or playing video games.
  
Matilda, an exotic dancer, is being evicted from her apartment for painting the walls red and installing a stripper poll in the living room.  A portrait of her by an admirer rests on her mirror. Sister Clare Szlachetka is one of a group of five Contemplatives Nuns who live in Springfield, Illinois. The sisters spend their days praying for the salvation of souls.  Shot for the State-Journal Register.

Florida Seminoles Chastity Harmon, and Sean Osceola are the next generation of Indian cowboys. Sean's family has raised and sold cattle for three generations, and Sean could be the fourth. "I think everyone in the tribe who remembers the hard times wants our kids to live better than we did," says Sean's dad, Reno.  Shot for the Sun Sentinel.
  
Mason is a transgendered male, who has spent the last several years changing his gender.  Here he injects testosterone, or "T" which gives him a deeper voice, facial hair and a more visually oriented sex-drive. "Suddenly I was the guy who looked at your boobs when you talked to me," says Mason.

A DC-3 cargo plane crash-landed in a residential street shortly after take off in Ft. Lauderdale. Firefighters used foam to bring the blaze under control. All three people on board survived.  For the Sun Sentinel.
  
Maria Gough's 14-year-old-son Jaime was stabbed to death by a fellow middle school student. To commemorate the anniversary, Southwood Middle School held a peace rally where the Gough family released hundreds of butterflies. One landed on Maria and stayed perched on her shoulder for the remainder of the ceremony.  For The Miami Herald.
  
Jack Fox hasn't seen his father, Major Richard Fox, in eight months. Approximately 200 soldiers from the Illinois Army National Guard were deployed as part of the war on terrorism, known as Operation Enduring Freedom.  Shot for the State-Journal Register.
     
  
Rabbi Mochkin and Chaim Boyarslay perform Tefilin for Jewish males at the pro-Israel rally in Washington D.C. The box is set on the head, opposite the brain, and the straps are set on the arm, opposite the heart, to convey the idea that one's feelings and thoughts are all placed in the service of God.
  
At Our House James bathes his friend of eight years, Lonnie. Our House is a 12-bed residential care facility for people with AIDS in Portland, Oregon. "My job is to try and keep life from being too lonely," says James. Lonnie, a chain-smoker, self-described exhibitionist and beach comber has been at Our House for a year and a half.
  
Sarah Cross checks the black eyes left from a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Doctors say that she was not only lucky to not break any bones but even luckier to have survived the crash.
